The Detroit Lions have beat the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 21-20

This is the first time Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have lost the first game of the season. The Lions had a spectacular performance with Jared Goff passing for 253 yards and one touchdown. Outplaying Patrick Mahomes’s 226 yards and two touchdowns and an interception.

The Detroit Lions rookies were excellent in their first game as NFL players. Tight end Sam LaPorta had five receptions for 39 yards. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs had a total of seven carries for a total of 42 yards. Safety Brian Branch was most impressive with three total tackles and a pick six (a pick six is an interception returned for a touchdown). This was the first time Patrick Mahomes has ever thrown an interception in the first game of the season.

Many Chiefs fans and announcers in the NFL have said that this game would have been a lot different if the Chiefs would have had Travis Kelce tight end for the Chiefs and Chris Jones defensive tackle for the Chiefs. They both were inactive at the time the game had to be played and both have superstar talent.

After this performance by the Detroit Lions fans have been starting to realize that this season might be different.

“I went to my first Lions game last Sunday,” principal Tim Youngbl0od said. “They are fun to watch they are good and very young. My favorite Lions player is definitely Aiden Hutchinson.”

“I am happy because they are finally doing good and haven’t for a long time and they have a good coach who is good with culture, and they have started the season 1-0 which is very good,” sophomore Troy Tartamella said.

Many fans are looking forward to the Lion possibly going to the playoffs.

“Yeah, I hope the Lions make the playoffs they have started off strong and have a lot of potential,” junior Jonathan Carter said.

Many Lions fans have their favorite players all picked out.

“My favorite player on the Lions is Aiden Hutchinson because he is one of the best edge rushers in the NFL and he is from the University of Michigan,” sophomore Brayden Lemley said.

The students and teachers in Utica have been noticing the positive change and how good the Lions can really be this season with more and more sports discussions being talked about. Many students and even teachers have not seen a Detroit Lions team as good as this in their entire lifetime.
