On May 3, 2025, track member junior Siene Muraszewski placed 3rd in the 3200-meters with a time of 10:53.55 at the Farmington Invitational, being the first female to break the 11-minute barrier and the previous girls school record of 11:04.36 set by alumni Addison Johnson in 2024.
This achievement exceeded many peoples’ expectations that day, especially her track and cross country coach, Chris Scott, the 2012 Utica High School alumni, who ran everything from the 4×4 to the 3200 is still holding the school records in the 4×4 and 4×8 relays, was blown away by her performance.

“Farmington always seems to produce great races, and she’s in the best shape she’s ever been in. She far surpassed my expectations,” Scott said. “Around lap six, I realized how big of a race this was going to be. That’s typically when athletes in the 3200 start to fade, but she was holding steady and I got chills, forgot to continue to get splits, and just started to enjoy the show.”
Scott wasn’t the only one to be impressed by Muraszewski’s achievement. Previous record holder for the 3200-meters and Muraszewski’s former track and cross country teammate Johnson, was overjoyed to hear the news of the new school record.
“I am so happy that Siene broke the record,” Johnson said. “She’s very dedicated and has been working so hard. She deserves it so much. I am so proud of her.”
Muraszewski’s path to success wasn’t easy. During her freshmen season of running, she was taken out for three months due to a knee injury, spending three days a week at physical therapy, while her sophomore season was spent regaining what she had lost freshmen year through cross country and track practices, but junior year has been different story.
“It feels amazing, especially after having a setback after setback season.” Muraszewski said. “It has just lifted a huge weight off my shoulders.”
According to Athletic.net, Muraszewski’s time for the 3200-meters is now 19th place in the lower peninsula of the State of Michigan.
