Basketball loses in rivalry game against Eisenhower Eagles

On Friday, Dec. 16, the Utica Chieftains faced their rival, the Eisenhower Eagles. The atmosphere was unbelievable as both sets of fans filled the stands. This match was much anticipated as the schools are only five minutes away from each other.

Unfortunately, the game was never close as the Eagles’ score of 67 outmatched Utica’s score of 48.

“We need to limit our turnovers, ” junior Sam Soriano said. “We also need to finish our shots.”

The game didn’t start out in favor of the Chieftains, as at the end of the first quarter they were down 16-5.

Heading into halftime, the Chieftains were down 30-14.  In favor of the Eagles, the Chieftains were unable to find that spark. The Chieftains seemed outmatched on both sides of the court. As the final buzzer sounds, the Chieftains lost by the score of 67-48.

Leading the stat sheet with points for Utica was Gabe Garbarino, Omaure Miller, and David Frick, who all notched 10 points.

The Utica Chieftains now have a record of one win and three losses. The Chieftains look to bounce back as they play Grosse Point North in their first MAC White game.

The Chieftains will play that game on Wednesday, December 21 at home.
