Varsity dance has started its new season and they’re ready to do what it takes. With their 2018 UDA (Universal Dance Association) Camp starting June 15, the team is adding the final touches to their home routine and making sure the team is ready.

In order to compete at nationals, the team will bring a “home” routine where they will compete to qualify for nationals in February. This year, the team will dance to “Whatever It Takes” by The Imagine Dragons in a contemporary-jazz routine.

“I really think this routine is going to do well,” junior Addison Guitar said. “I think it shows all of our strengths and will set a high standard for the season.”

The team also has had a change in leadership as their previous captain is an outgoing senior. The dancers are now led by Guitar and juniors Colleen Roberts, Julia Meguid, and Madalyn Dishman. this is a major change from their usual one captain and one co-captain.

“Having four captains is going to be very different,” Roberts said, “but we have such a close bond already that I think it will reflect positively on the team.”

While at camp, the team will learn different routines that they will bring into the fall season. The styles will range from jazz, pom, and hip hop.

As camp is the kickoff to their season, the team is excited for what the year has in store. Between going to camp, receiving new clothes and planning team bonding events, dance team is in full swing.
