Our charity week was recently held during the lunches where students could donate money to buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize. There were tons of different baskets to put money towards. Lots of students and some teachers participated and even bought multiple tickets for one bin to get a higher change at winning. In the end we raised $1877 that went straight to the Humane Society of Macomb.
“When I won the French basket, I was so shocked,” teacher Dawn Anderson said. “I donate $20 every year, and this is the first time I won a prize.”
Together as a school we were able to create this opportunity not only to help animals in need but to give back to those who donated. With this event we were able to provide food, toys, and necessities for the shelter which made Mr. Youngblood beyond happy.
“I feel fantastic that we were able to help those animals,” principal Tim Youngblood said. “This is something very special to me and any support at all is helpful.”
Mr. Youngblood has had experience with the humane society, and it holds a special place in his heart for being able to give back.
“I grew up with lots of different animals, and always cared for them as well as the ones at the humane society.” principal Tim Youngblood said, “I believe that is important for everyone to give back to charities because it gets you out of your head and causes you to see the big picture.”
This charity event was all started by Andrea Solomon and was ran mainly by her and Suzanne Greenfield. Majority of the school chipped in and bought items for the baskets and or donated money towards the charity.
“Mrs. Greenfield works at the Humane Society of Macomb,” Teacher Andrea Solomon said, “And because of the connection she has I thought it would be nice to support a local community, and by doing so we were able to raise tons of money for the third year in a row.”
With lots of amazing teachers and many students help, we were able to set up 12 donation baskets for staff and students to win. The 12 winners were, Lori Wellhausen, Angelina Williams, Mrs. Tancredi, Evan Kies, Alexis Lulej, Valerie Kapousis, Matthew Engelhardt, Barandon Adams, Mrs. Anderson, Gina Lobaito, Mr. Davis, and Ariana Dirr. Congratulations.
“Out of all 12 baskets and all the people who bought raffle tickets I was someone who won,” Freshmen Arianna Dirr said. “I am very proud of myself.”
A big thank you to everyone who either donated a basket or just money, without you we would have not been able to make this happen and raise this much money.
