For many in this upcoming winter season, school could not seem to end any faster. For student council, however, it was important to make this time period as fun as possible.
“Every season in student council, we try to fill the school with a fun activity,” senior Gabby Boskovich said. “Last season it was our cider mill, but for the winter season we decided to do a ‘Winter Fest,’”
From something that just started from a small idea in the Student Council office, the Winter Fest ended up being a huge project.
“We had to plan our location first since we obviously couldn’t do it out-
side anymore like we did with the Cider Mill; it’s just too cold,” junior Sarahi Agustin said. “So we concluded that the ECC Room during all lunches would be good.”
For only $2, students could walk into the ECC Room during their lunches and get hot cocoa, color pictures, make their own ornaments, or take pictures with Santa.
“I volunteered to get my required volunteer hours for student council, and I ended up staying for longer than I expected,” senior Isabel Krajnik said. “I was just having a fun time with my friends, and it didn’t even feel like I was volunteering.”
With the incoming exams, many believed that it was a perfect way to release stress.
“I thought it was really fun and relaxing,” senior Sarah Fromm said. “Moehlig dressing up as Santa was funny, a lot of people took pictures with him and it lightened the mood. I know a lot of my friends will go back next year.”
The event wasn’t just for the students; the staff also appreciated the brand new Winter Fest.
“At the end of the year with exams, I think it’s really important to have something so that students can have a break,” principal Timothy Youngblood said. “I think it should definitely be a annual thing.”
The fun activities took a lot of collaboration and creative ideas from around the school.
“The idea to be Santa was actually mine,” teacher Mark Moehlig said. “It felt like I just had to. It would
bring in more students and I knew it would be a hit.”
Many were amazed by the decorations of the event, with many light-up trees and LED lights around the ECC, as well as tablecloths over all the tables decked in different holiday colors.
“When I walked into the ECC, I was just surprised by how different it looked,” senior Mia Jalics said. “There was lights everywhere, lit-up trees, I was really not expecting that.” For student council, the Winter Fest was considered a success after the amount of positive feedback, and will be a tradition for years to come.
