Indoor track has grown in size within the past year. Many new and returning runners are participating in the upcoming meets. A lot of athletes view indoor track as a pre season to the outdoor track season. It is a way for runners to work on their specific event and to get in shape for the outdoor track season.

Junior Jonathan Carter has began to practice for his first season of indoor track. Although this is his first season doing indoor track, he is not new to the sport. He has been annually running track since his 7th grade year.

“This season I am working to improve and to get back into running for the outdoor season,” Carter said. “I am hoping to participate in the 60 meter hurdles and I am still deciding if I want to do high jump or not.”

Returning runner senior Eleanor Kroetsch is ready for the beginning of this years indoor track season. She is making the transition from running cross country to running track indoors, in preparation for outdoor track.

“This is my second year doing indoor track, I am very excited for this season,” Kroetsch said. “I run the 800 and 1600 meter.”

Sophomore Brooke Mcfarland is just beginning her athletics in track and field. It is only her second year running indoor track. She runs long distance and is hoping to improve her times for her outdoor track season.

“I run the 800, 1600, and 3200 meters,” Mcfarland said. “In my second year of doing indoor track, I want to work to improve to get faster and prepared for my outdoor season.”

Coaching for 8 years has left Coach Chris Scott with a lot of knowledge regarding track. Coaching the indoor track season, outdoor track season, and speed club.

“Indoor is especially important to train, condition, and prepare for competition come spring,” Scott said “Since indoor is a voluntary club, I look for purpose and consistency in athletes through their own motivation. I provide the opportunity, however, the accountability must come from themselves or their teammates.”

Since the popularity increase in the past year, many athletes have gained a lot of strength from the indoor track season. The pre season leading into the outdoor track season is very important. Participating athletes have goals they are hoping to accomplish this season to get them prepared to accomplish their up and coming goals for outdoor season.
