After many months of waiting for the 2024 Homecoming dance at Utica High School October 5th, many students are excited to finally go to homecoming!
“The dance has been fun for my first year. There’s a lot of people,” sophomore Van Bowen said. “The music’s good and just hanging out with my friends and dancing to music is easily the best part.”
This year’s theme for the dance is “The Big City” and most students enjoyed the dance.
“The dance is not bad, but I feel like we could use a little more. For the most part, it’s not bad, but the dance at the school I was at last year was boring, so this is better than last year,” junior Amelius Lewis said. “But I think that for next year, things like concessions and long lines could be improved. But as far as the actual party, I think it’s all right. I liked being able to chill out and have conversations with friends, which is cool.”
Last year’s theme was Masquerade, some students think should be some changes for next year’s dance.
“For the dance next year, I feel it would be cool if it had a little bit more to do with the theme. This theme was big city. If it had cities, I think it would be more authentic,” senior Ryan Parrish said. “But I still think this year’s dance is better than last year’s dance as I came with a bunch of friends, and we’re having a great time, which is my favorite part.”
Teachers and staff like this year’s dance. The tickets were fairly priced, and everyone was happy.
“I’m enjoying the dance, and it looks like a great time. Everyone’s having fun. It’s a good event and it’s a good homecoming,” officer Gabe Aceti said. “My favorite part would have to be seeing all you guys having a good time and everyone’s dressed up, having fun, and dancing.”
The dance also had other staff chaperoning the dance and they were very excited about the dance and loved seeing everyone there.
“The dance has been fun so far, and it’s nice to see everyone dressed up,” Media Center assistant Mrs. R said. “I feel like homecoming is kind of like a rite of passage, you know, and you get to go in the gym and experience with everyone else. You’ll remember it forever. Just seeing everyone outside of school is cool to see.”
As the dance started to end and everyone started to leave and say goodbye to one another, everyone was smiling and enjoyed the dance and socializing, as they can’t wait for next year’s dance, and some of them went to after parties, while others just drove home. Most importantly, it was a good homecoming.
