The Detroit lions are having the greatest season in team history and one of the greatest seasons in NFL history. They started off the season strong with a 26-20 win over the L.A. Rams then a tough 20-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the bright spot was defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. They start off the season 1-1 with high hopes for the rest of the season. Going into week 3 they were expecting a tough game against the Arizona Cardinals as they came away with a 20-13 win.
Week 4 was a huge 42-29 win over the Seatle Seahawks as Quarterback Jared Goff had a receiving touchdown from wide-receiver Amon-ra St. Brown. “I thought that plan was amazing” Said Junior Michael Rice “and showed how creative our offense is with Ben Johnson as our offensive coordinator”. The Detroit lions start their season off 3-1 for the first time since 2014. Week 5 was a bye week as the lions rested up for their important game against the Dallas Cowboys. They came out with a big 47-9 win as they lost their best defensive player in Aidan Hutchinson with a season ending knee injury.
As week 7 starts they are playing their first division rival in the Minnesota Vikings. They came off with a impressive 31-29-win as rookie kicker Jake Bates hit the game winning field goal. They went into week 8 to play the Tennessee Titans with a huge 52-14 win as punt/kick returner Kalif Raymond had an amazing game with over 100 total return yards. Week 9 was a tough game against the division rival Green Bay Packers, and they came away with a 28-14 win. At this point wide-receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has a touchdown in 6 straight games as he is reaching for the record of most games in a row with a touchdown. Week 10 was a Primetime Sunday Night football game against the Huston Texans. That game goes for the history book as Goff throws 5 interceptions but comes out with the 26-23 win for the 3rd time in history. Jake bates comes out with the game winning kick again as he is a perfect 16/16 kicking right now.
Going into week 11 playing the Jaguars the lions were expected to come out with a big win as they did win 52-6 and now not allowing a touchdown in 6 quarters. St. Brown now has tied the record for scoring a touchdown in 8 games straight as they go into their week 12 game against the Indianapolis Colts “I really wish he got the record” said Sophomore Tyler Olko “it would’ve been so cool, he definitely deserves it” The defense standing strong as they win 24-6 and the defense has not allowed a touchdown in 10 straight quarters, but St. Brown fell short of the record and is now still tied.
Now the thanksgiving game as the lions try and break the streak. They have lost on thanksgiving for 7 straight years. “I hope we come out with the win this year” said Olko “they are definitely good enough to win this year” They come into the game against the Chicago Bears taking over the first half 16-0 as the defense has held the bears to below 50 total offensive yards. Going into the second half the bears come out strong scoring 2 straight touchdowns to wide-receiver Keenan Allen and the lions answering back with a touchdown of their own from tight-end Sam LaPorta making the score 23-14. The bears scored another touchdown to make it 20-23 as the lions had to punt giving the ball back to the bears with about 2 minutes left. The bears march down the field and get to about the 30-yard line as time is running out and they snap the back and throw it deep as time expires, and the bear lose. “That was a bad loss by the bears” said junior Troy Tartamella “They had a timeout and just wasted time; it was a rookie mistake”. The bears coach Matt Eberflus was then fired 2 days after the game. The lions broke their Thanksgiving losing streak and started off their season 11-1 for the first time in team history.
