The parking lot reconstruction, which was first introduced to students in September, was originally set to begin in early January. This construction meant that the juniors would lose the ability to park in any student lot the entirety of second semester. Yet, this construction has been postponed indefinitely due to a lack of communication from the construction crew. It is unsure when these improvements on the lot will begin, or if they will even happen until the end of this school year.
However, for many juniors and seniors who drive to school every day, the delays mean that they can park in the lot like normal for the time being. While the lot could use some upgrades for style and convenience, students who park in the lot daily appreciate how convenient the delay has been considering the chilly weather lately, along with those who have busy schedules, and participate in extracurricular activities.
Students are unaware of what is happening with the parking lot, which is leading to concerns and questions about what is to come in the upcoming school year.
“We don’t know anything about anything,” junior Easton Myny said. “It should be done in the summer so no one has to worry. It’s kind of annoying and it makes me stress about where I’m going to park down the line.”
Some students rely on parking to get to school, because buses and other options are not a choice.
“If the parking lot had become unavailable, I would try to park either in the senior lot or a nearby neighborhood,” junior Mckenna Bock said. “It’s unsafe to park in neighborhood streets because of students running down to get to their cars.
The construction has not only affected this year’s juniors but also the current sophomores.
“I’ll be disappointed if I can’t have a parking spot next year,” sophomore Nathan Seigert said. “I was looking forward to having it next year and being able to drive to school.”
Although the delays on the parking lot set a positive tone for the current seniors and juniors, the sophomores are still at risk of not having available parking next school year. Construction has been delayed for this semester, but the possibility of it continuing in the following school year is still an opportunity, and no solutions as to parking have been provided yet.
