A scribbled character from just one episode of SpongeBob SquarePants, DoodleBob, has been spotted around Utica High School. DoodleBob became a meme in 2013 for waving his magic pencil in the air angrily and saying, “Me Hoy Minoy”. DoodleBob has been noticed during semester two in restrooms, classrooms, and hallways.
“I was wondering why I kept seeing DoodleBob everywhere,” junior Carlina Shadda said, “it is really random though.”
“It was a joke in fifth hour between my friends,” senior Sadie Gray said. “We would place them around and I would give them to my friends.”
Although this started as an inside joke between a couple of friends, drawing DoodleBob and leaving him in places became a bigger joke around the school that students and staff were noticing.
“We just found it as something funny to do,” senior Josh Carson said. “It was meant to be a silent senior prank.”
DoodleBob was simply meant to be a memory between a group of friends and leave them with a laugh.
“We didn’t want anyone to notice we were doing it,” senior Aubrey Younans said, “but it made me happy when people would notice a DoodleBob drawing I had left and take it.”
Graduation can be stressful because of not knowing what’s to come, but DoodleBob has brought some joy into this time for these friends.
“I’m glad that this was one of the last things I did at Utica with my friends,” senior Dominic Hayat said. “I’ve been kind of nervous for what I’m doing after graduation, but I had fun doing this with my friends as something we are going to remember.”
DoodleBob did end up just being a small and silly senior prank, all because of a couple students in a class with something to draw.
