Halfway through the year, one of our larger clubs, Hispanic Honor Society, is already making their way in their annual charity events. The club, sponsored by Julie Wright, meets twice a month.

In December, the group sold Butter Braid bread to raise money for Toys for Tots. After raising the money, a few participants ventured to Toys “R” Us, where they bought an assortment of toys to donate.

Charity continues to be an important aspect of the club as well as learning an appreciation for the Hispanic culture.

“It’s a great way to make friends and form bonds all while helping out great causes,” junior Shelby Davies said.“For me, I just love helping people out and Hispanic Honor Society gives me an outlet to do so.”

Later in the year the group is set to participate in Relay For Life, their biggest event of the year. Relay for Life is a walkathon in which participants raise money to attempt to combat and cure cancer. Each year at the event, a booth is set up and small items such as bandanas and tattoos are sold to increase the volume of money raised.

“I love how everyone shows up to walk and support a great cause like cancer”, junior Alexis Castonguay said,  “And the fact we raise a ton of money is pretty cool too!”

The club is just another example of the charity work we are known for. Participants eager in being active, help the club continue to thrive, which is something members pride themselves in. Existing members encourage others, who meet requirements, to get involved.

“You won’t regret it,”  Castonguay said.
