For Starbucks fans who are always ready to try new flavors and menu items, the Tropical Butterfly Refresher was designed with these fans in mind.
On May 12, Starbucks released two new drinks: the Tropical Butterfly Lemonade Refresher and the Tropical Butterfly Refresher. Both feature a vibrant, color-changing appearance reminiscent of a sunset, with passionfruit flavor, lemonade, and ice. Each drink includes pineapple mango popping boba.
Some people who’ve tried this drink have said that it lacked flavor, was overpriced, was too subtle, or was perfume-y. When I first ordered the drink, it looked rushed.
In my opinion, this drink is a pass. While the sunset colors look beautiful and refreshing, the flavor doesn’t match the colors. The passion fruit tasted watery and tasted more like flavored water than the actual drink. The drink also didn’t have that beautiful color as it showed on Starbucks advertisements.
For me, the only thing I liked about the drink was the popping boba because it added that flavor to the drink. When I bit into the boba, it popped, and I instantly tasted a burst of pineapple mango inside the boba.
The colorful appearance and popping boba make it seem exciting, but the flavor is too weak to stand out. Considering the price, I expected a stronger passion-fruit flavor and a drink that looked more like the advertisement. While some people may enjoy its light, refreshing flavor, I wouldn’t order it again. If you’re curious, it may be worth trying once, but it wasn’t a drink that lived up to the hype for me.
