The popular Prime original series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, has been set to have the series finally debut this July. The series is directed and produced by Jenny Han, the author of the trilogy that the show is based on. The series includes actors Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, Jackie Chung, and Rachel Blanchard. Playing the roles of Isabel (Belly) Conklin, Conrad Fisher, Jeremiah Fisher, Steven Conklin, Laurel Park, and Susannah Fisher. There are many differences between books and the series, however Han made sure they follow the same overall theme of Belly having to choose between brothers Conrad and Jeremiah countless times.
Fans are excitedly counting down the 50 days until the season premiere and Han has been leaving breadcrumbs for fans. She has recently been conspicuously hinting at who Belly may end up with through her social media posts. In a recent Instagram post Han captioned an image of the season three poster by saying, “Summer is just a season away. The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 premiers this July on Prime Video”. Fans who’ve been closely analyzing aren’t entirely sure if Han is going to follow through with the ending of the trilogy due the season three poster being unlike the last two seasons posters where Belly was in the middle of both brothers while in the most recent poster, she is by herself.
“I’m concerned, I want to see Belly be with Conrad for good,” junior Julia Albuquerque said. “I will be very upset and never rewatch the show again, which will be sad because I love rewatching my shows.”
At the end of the second book of the trilogy, Belly still ended up choosing to be with Jeremiah instead of Conrad like she did in season 2. In the television show after Jeremiah and Belly became an official item Conrad accepted it and continued his relationship with his brother and Belly while in the trilogy Conrad stops speaking to both. Which is ultimately going to change the beginning of the story line in the third season.
“Season three is probably going to start out differently than it did in the books,” junior Nathaniel Rineer said. “[Belly, Jeremiah, and Conrad] will probably all still be talking, but Belly and Jeremiah will still have the fight then Conrad will find out and be mad about their situation then stop speaking to them.”
Many fans have split up into teams, siding with either Conrad or Jeremiah depending on their opinions on which brother suits Belly best. It has become one of the main arguments within the fandom and there are different standpoints on the topic. While Han is directing attention to the possibility of Belly not ending up with either of the brothers, some fans have been given hope that Han will deviate from the original ending and make Belly end up with the other brother at the.
“Jenny Han is too much of a hopeless romantic to make Belly not end up with the love of her life,” junior Landon Cooke said. “I can see her pivoting away from the exact ending of the book series, but I doubt she will.”
Despite the endings of the second book and season not aligning and the ending being uncertain. Fans across the world, no matter what team, are excited to see what’s to come in the series finale this July.
