Seven years too long. It has been seven years since the varsity football team has been to the playoffs. This year, however, is a completely different story.

The Chieftains have turned a new page in their history, as head coach Matt Marulli, in his 2nd year, looks to rebuild this growing program.  With Marulli’s guidance, 3-2 Utica Chieftains are looking for a chance in the playoffs this year.

“This year is very special to us,” says senior Sam Narusch,” We are very excited to start it off.”

The team looks solid after two blowout wins, beating Port Huron and Cousino and a nail-biting victory over Ford. With four more competitive games ahead, the Chieftains are looking to defy the odds and make the playoffs.

“It’s a great opportunity for us and [is] very exciting,” senior Stone Tanner said. “We have worked very hard for this moment and we don’t want to pass this up.”

The Chieftains, however are more hungry and eager to break this losing streak. The team has worked hard for its moment and is ready to give its school and community pride and a winning spirit.

“We’re prepared and ready to accomplish this exciting task,” senior Tyler Siluk said.
