‘Game of Thrones’ Comes to an End
May 23, 2019
For the past eight years,”Game of Thrones” has entertained fans with its unique story plots, unexpected plot-twists, cliff hangers, and phenomenal acting. As of April 14, the first episode of the last season aired on HBO. The eighth and final season only had six episodes before ending the GoT era forever.
For those who have never watched this series, GoT is based on a book series titled “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R. R. Martin. This saga is held in medieval times and tells the story of multiple kings and queens that are playing this gruesome game for total control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros to sit upon the Iron Throne.
The novel A Song of Ice and Fire was only so long. The plot of season 5 of Game of Thrones is where the novel had ended. It was up to the producers of GoT to create a story line beyond Martin’s books.
“Personally I loved season eight of ‘Game of Thrones’,” teacher Jeffery LaPratt said. “Every episode wasn’t my favorite but there were some episodes that were absolutely outstanding. I think that it was extremely difficult of HBO to follow the story line even after the book had ended. I have no complaints.”
While some talked very highly of the finale, others were not so fond.
“It had an amazing start but the ending was very disappointing,” senior Zachary Gallo said.
Eight years, of blood, loyalty, dragons, royalty, violence, and romance; this show could have gone on for many more seasons. Eventually “Game of Thrones” had to come to a conclusion.
“I thought it was good. There was never going to be a perfect ending, but I thought with a few exceptions, it was satisfying,” principal Thomas Lietz said. “George R.R Martin said it was going to be bittersweet and it captured that. I know everyone wanted more and wanted something different and I think that’s proof of how invested everyone was.”
Whether you loved or hated the final season, “Game of Thrones” fans have gone on a long, and thrilling journey that finally came to a close.
“When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.” -George R.R Martin said.
