Beginning in the Fall of 2024, students from the Class of 2023 and beyond are eligible for the Community College Guarantee, which covers in-county tuition, contact hours, and mandatory fees. People are eligible if they earn a diploma or certificate of completion; they are also eligible if they earned a high school equivalency certificate in 2023 or after. 

The Michigan Achievement Scholarship is designed to help students pursue college education. Graduating high school seniors are eligible to earn a skill certificate or degree at their local community college tuition-free just by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  

To claim their award and enroll at a Community College, they must complete the FAFSA, enrolled full time, and enroll within 15 months of their high school graduation.  

In order to complete the FAFSA, they first need their social security number and income information, like tax returns and tax forms, and need to create a studentaid.gov account for themself and their parents and contributors. 

Finally, some reasons why people should choose the Community College Path with the FAFSA are to earn a skill certificate or associate degree tuition-free at their local community college with the Community College Guarantee. Another reason is Transferable Credits so they start at a Community College and take their credits with them to a four-year university if they want, and a Fast Track to a High-Paying Career, Community College offers career-focused programs that can prepare them for high-paying jobs in as little as two years. Lastly, Free Money Bonuses, if they receive the Federal Pell Grant, they are eligible for an extra $1,000 for living expenses.
