Deciding where to go to college is a difficult decision for anyone to make. To ease the stress of college season, Utica Community Schools is hosting a College Fair and Industry Night open to juniors and seniors throughout the district. From Oct. 13, 14, and 16 from 6-8 pm, representatives from 18 different Michigan colleges will be giving 30-minute presentations at the Instructional Resources Center. As well as an industry night Oct. 15, exploring career pathways in medical health, veterinary services, industrial, skilled trades, and cosmetology.
Presentations were offered for Central Michigan, Center for Creative Studies, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Michigan, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Kettering, Lawrence Tech, Michigan State, MIT, Northern Michigan, Oakland, Saginaw Valley, Wayne State, Walsh, and Western Michigan.
“We try to emphasize students turning their passions into professions,” said Grand Valley representative, explaining to students the connections between college and career opportunities after graduation.

Helpful information was given on the application process, student life, as well as scholarship opportunities, and more to help incoming applicants feel more at ease. As well as exploration of several career industries for those who choose to go into the workforce.
“I was interested in Michigan State University,” junior Kaylee Caton said. “The presentations informed me of the majors that will help me with my career of choice.”
The event was a great success, informing students of opportunities outside of high school from college to career industries. Helping them feel more confident in their future plans and careers.
