Fashion trends often change, and it can be hard to keep up or know where to shop for the latest looks. With summer just around the corner, there are new and old trends rising. Last summer one of the most popular fashion crazes was the ‘Coastal Grandmother’ aesthetic, the inspiration for this style was eastern coast rich grandma. Another popular trend was chic athletics which included tennis/ golf outfits and focused on pieces like the Lululemon define jacket. The last style from 2024 spring and summer was ballet core which combined ballet clothing elements into niche runway-esk outfits. This summer the trends have changed from coastal to baggy Bermuda shorts (long baggy shorts), from chic to elevated athleisure, and runway ballet to running to ballet.
The first fashion trend of the summer is baggy Bermuda shorts. They’re often styled with tight tops or baggy graphic T-shirts with shoes like adidas sambas, Birken Stock Boston Clogs, and Nike Airforce Ones. Bermuda shorts that are in style can be found at Pac Sun, Tillys, and Zumiez.
“This style is definitely on the street wear side,” sophomore John Sanchez said. “I feel like it suits certain people better but the way they’re styled is what makes them look good.”
The next trend is the ‘new wave’ Ballet core. This has been a trend in previous years, featuring ballet flats and light pink ballet clothing pieces. This time around, it includes similar things but leaning into more street wear or preppy style. It can include arm and leg warmers, ballet flats, shrugs, and athletic pants. The style focuses more on ‘heading to ballet’ rather than subtly adding ballet items into high fashion outfits like the previous trend. You can find ballet pieces at Boogzel Clothing, Lulus, and Urban Outfitters.
“I think that the version of this style is better,” junior Eliana Weddington said. “The last time it was popular it was more like runway fast fashion; this one looks more effortless.”
The last trend of many is elevated athleisure. While this has been trending for a while, it’s predicted to still be going strong throughout the summer. The look often includes matching sweat sets, sandwich outfits (matching shirt and shoe color), or wearing statement shoes. You can find matching sets at Aritzia, White Fox, and Alo.
“Matching sweat sets are good especially when you’re in a rush,” junior Nathaniel Rineer said. “It’s an effortless way to look well put together. I can see this trend sticking around for a while.”
While new fashion trends are either rising or falling, there are still pieces that are timeless. Cut off shorts,Cami tank tops, flip flops, and graphic t-shirts have stayed in style for many years. Some looks are bound to go out of style, but there will be ones that stick around or reemerge.
